Important changes in July 2025: Pensions, care and taxes under pressure!
The coming weeks will bring significant changes and events for many citizens in Hesse. From July 1, 2025, a number of new changes will come into force that will improve both the financial situation of pensioners and support for nursing staff. The start of the summer holidays in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate is also in sight. An exciting month is ahead, which also brings with it numerous events and festivals.
What has changed for pensioners? From July 1, 2025, the statutory pension will be increased by 3.74 percent. For a standard pension, which reflects average earnings after 45 years of contributions, this means an increase of around 66 euros per month, while a pension of 1,000 euros increases by 37.40 euros. This has already been done by daily news reported. All pension changes are taxable, which may put some pensioners in the position of having to file an income tax return.
Changes in the care sector and minimum wage
The care industry is also enjoying positive developments. The minimum wage for nursing assistants will be increased to 16.10 euros per hour from July 2025; qualified nursing assistants will then earn 17.35 euros per hour, while nursing specialists can expect to earn 20.50 euros per hour. These increased rates are crucial to increase the attractiveness of the nursing profession and to demonstrate the appreciation for the work on people. In addition, the care contribution for pensioners will be increased by a one-off 4.8 percent in July before falling to 3.6 percent in August. Reported on this Echo24.
Another advance in the care sector: relatives can now use respite care for up to 8 weeks per year. From July 2025, a sum of 3,539 euros will be added together for preventive and short-term care. This massively improves flexibility for caring relatives, as the previous pre-care period of six months is no longer required for care levels above 2.
Tax returns and diet increases
But that wasn't all that changed in July. The deadline for submitting the income tax return for 2024 also ends on July 31, 2025. If you seek the support of a tax advisor, you can give yourself until April 30, 2026. Voluntary tax returns must even be submitted by December 31, 2028. These deadlines raise important considerations for many taxpayers, as noted by T Online described.
There is also news for the members of the Bundestag among us: their diets are increasing by 5.4 percent, reaching a monthly amount of over 11,800 euros. Given the current economic situation, this could still cause discussions.
Events and summer holidays
In parallel to these significant changes, there are also exciting leisure activities on the horizon. In Baden-Württemberg, the summer holidays begin on July 31, 2025, while in Rhineland-Palatinate, students start their summer break on July 7. For all culture and music lovers: The “Rhine in Flames” event starts on July 5, 2025 between Trechtingshausen and Bingen/Rüdesheim. And things will also be colorful in Stuttgart - the Christopher Street Day (CSD) will delight visitors from July 11th to 27th with cultural weeks, the highlight of which will take place on July 26th.
In addition, the Nibelungen Festival in Worms with the production “Lake of Asche” is on the program from July 11th. So the time of traditional celebrations is in full swing!
