Silver for the Lahntalschule: girls impress in the state competition!
Last weekend, the U14 volleyball teams from the Lahntalschule Lahnau in Hofheim experienced an exciting tournament. Your trainer, Dr. Stephan Ellenberger and coach Kirsten Schmidt had carefully prepared the girls and boys for the state finals and were able to look back on strong qualifications. Both teams competed in their respective competitions and delivered exciting games to the spectators.
In a field of five for the girls and a group phase for the boys, the pressure was great. The girls had to admit defeat in the first round against the Elly-Heuss-Schule Wiesbaden - the game ended 0-2. The boys also lost out to the Main-Taunus-Schule Hofheim and were defeated 0-2. But it wasn't just the lost game that stirred emotions.
Ups and downs of games
Both teams found their form back in the following games. The boys won their second game against the Hohe Landesschule Hanau 2-1 after an exciting tiebreak. The girls, on the other hand, were able to win 2-1 against an equally strong team from Hofheim and showed that they were clearly on the way to a medal.
Things went less well for the boys afterwards. They reached the crossover game as second in the group, where they met the Elly-Heuss-Schule Wiesbaden again and lost 2-0 this time too. In the game for third place they had to admit defeat to the Lahntalschule Biedenkopf and thus took fourth place. However, this is a remarkable result for a team that has only recently been reconfigured.
Silver for the girls
The girls were not discouraged by the boys' difficulties. They thrilled their audience with a strong performance and won against the Ahnatal School Vellmar with 2:0 and against the Lahntalschule Biedenkopf, also with 2:0. These successes secured them second place and thus the silver medal, which they proudly brought back to the Lahntalschule.
A successful competition with remarkable team spirit and determination that will certainly be fondly remembered by everyone involved. While the volleyball community in Hesse is celebrating this success, the next challenges are already waiting for the talented players from the Lahntalschule.
This event illustrates the commitment and passion for volleyball in Hesse. By the way, the U14 state cup also took place in Zepernick on Sunday, with strong teams competing and exciting duels taking place. SC Potsdam was able to achieve victory there with its first team and proves how popular youth volleyball is at the moment.
In summary, the sport of volleyball is flourishing in the region and both girls and boys are making clear progress. Supported by dedicated coaches and a motivated community, we are sure to hear a lot more from these athletes.
