The fire brigade from Hattersheim, Okriftel and Eddersheim used a demanding training weekend to increase their operational readiness. A total of 23 emergency services went on a journey to the Training Base Weeze , one of the largest training centers for fire brigade and disaster protection in Europe. On Thursday, seven emergency vehicles made the approximately 300 kilometer path to the German-Dutch border. The exercise center offers a wide range of training opportunities on over 60 hectares, including real fire training and respiratory protection exercises.

Under the motto "Training under realistic conditions", the firefighters practiced under extreme conditions. At temperatures of over 30 ° C, they fought against flames and strong smoke. The scenarios in which there were four individual exercises on the subject of "apartment fire with two missing persons" were particularly challenging. A complex train exercise in a qualified apartment building presented the emergency services with great challenges, since the exact number of the missing people was initially unclear.

The second day of the weekend did not bring relaxation. On Saturday, two more exercises were on the plan: a fire in a workshop that spread into the basement of a restaurant, as well as another fire in an apartment building. In both scenarios, missing people were simulated, which gave the emergency services the opportunity to further deepen their skills and to gain valuable knowledge.

The investment of the city of Hattersheim am Main in the amount of 30,000 euros guaranteed the support of this intensive exercise. This fully financed both the accommodation as well as the use of the exercise system and the training. During the entire time, fire protection in Hattersheim, Okriftel and Eddersheim was ensured at any time thanks to the surrounding weirs, such as the Hofheim fire brigade.
