Ice cold water: SCW Eschborn shines at the championships in Rostock

Last weekend was a very special one for the participants in the German Open Water Swimming Championships, which took place in Rostock. Despite the cool water temperatures, numerous swimmers came together to take on the challenge. Loud Taunus news the water temperature was 18.6 degrees on Saturday and even 19.1 degrees on Sunday. In these temperatures, wetsuits were not allowed, which made conditions even more difficult for many athletes.

The SCW Eschborn was represented by two talented swimmers: Adrian Klose and Arne Gerald Roth. On Saturday, 2.5 kilometers were on the competition program. Adrian Klose did excellently and improved his time by three minutes compared to last year. With a time of 35:10.26 minutes he finished in 19th place. His teammate Arne Gerald Roth reached 13th place in a time of 31:37.26 minutes and was satisfied with his performance.

Challenges in open water

The cool temperatures meant that many participants had to give up early. Nevertheless, Arne Gerald Roth was able to shine again in the 5 kilometer race on Sunday and competed with a time of 1:06:40 hours, which secured him 11th place. The SCW Eschborn was proud of the achievements of its swimmers, who performed bravely despite the challenging conditions.

In the context of the championships, it is interesting to mention that a total of 70 participants from 13 Bavarian clubs took part in the International German Open Water Swimming Championships in Rostock Bavarian Swimming Association reported. During the competition weekend, numerous athletes competed in various distances, including the demanding 7.5 kilometer races.

More highlights from the championships

On the first day of the competition, Ivan Korolev from SC Magdeburg and Melina Nitschke from SC Chemnitz won the overall ranking in the 7.5 kilometer race. There were also relay races over 3 × 1.25 kilometers for the young swimmers, with SG Stadtwerke Munich winning the female A-youth category. These special achievements by our athletes not only show their skills, but also the team spirit that is essential in open water swimming.
