Farewell to the town hall: Eschborn celebrates a piece of history

The city of Eschborn recently said goodbye to its administration building on Rathausplatz. The event to move into the new premises on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße brought old and young together. Numerous current and former employees as well as interested citizens were there. Mayor Martin Herkströter, who led the city from 1990 to 2002, did not miss the opportunity to attend the celebration and remembered the renovation of the building that took place during his time in office.

The farewell is accompanied by a colorful celebration. A Käwwern drinks cart provided refreshments and a DJ accompanied the event with appropriate music. Visitors had the opportunity to enter the foyer of the town hall again and leave their creative contributions on a wall specially reserved for this purpose. This wall will be placed in the new premises as a “piece of Eschborn history”. In addition, a flea market with all sorts of discarded items from the parade offered a nice way to end the evening. The proceeds from sales will benefit the “Citizens Helping Citizens” association, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025.

Honorable commitment to the community

The “Citizens Helping Citizens” association has earned an excellent reputation over the past 50 years and is firmly anchored in the social fabric of Eschborn. The valuable work of the association was honored at a festive ceremony on June 24, 2025, at which Mayor Adnan Shaikh also gave a welcoming speech. Particular attention is paid to the clothing store, which opened its doors 35 years ago at Hauptstrasse 41. Here, 1,000 donated items of clothing are sorted every month on 36 square meters, of which around 300 are sold at reasonable prices.

The clothing store is more than a place for sales; it provides significant support for needy citizens in Eschborn. Over the last two decades, around 190,000 euros have been distributed to people who needed financial help. “We will continue to do our best to help those who need us,” emphasized Mayor Shaikh and announced that the city would cover the rent of the clothing store.

A look into the future

While the demand for clothing remains high, there is a desire for a larger sales area. Those responsible are currently struggling with the challenge that many people are often queuing in front of the clothing store to stock up on inexpensive clothing. The Lions Club supports the project with craftsmen and is also committed to the social infrastructure in Eschborn.

In conclusion, it can be said that the move of the city administration and the activities of the “Citizens Helping Citizens” association continue to enrich social life in Eschborn and strengthen the coexistence of citizens. At a time when sustainability and social responsibility are more in demand than ever, the people of Eschborn stand as a shining example with their commitment. In this way, Altodobia also becomes a step into the future. Who would have thought?
