Darmstadt is fighting for the future: first results on mobility peace!

Darmstadt, Deutschland - What's new from Darmstadt? Today the science city presents the first results of the online participation for the “Future Plan Mobility Peace”. This campaign took place from April 29 to May 30, 2025 and met with lively interest: over 500 people took part and left almost 1400 contributions, more than 400 comments and over 2000 reviews. A clear sign that the citizens are concerned with their mobility, as Rheinmainverlag.de

The range of topics was broad. The cycle paths and road tour as well as public transport were particularly mentioned. Concerns such as car sharing, traffic lights and the design of city traffic were also discussed. Security risks in foot and cycling as well as accessibility show that there is still a need for improvement. The contributions collected come from all districts of Darmstadt and even from the surrounding regions.

The desire for improvements

The feedback from the citizens: inside is systematically evaluated and flows into the inventory analysis for the integrated traffic development plan "Future Mobile Darmstadt". A supplementary survey on current mobility use showed that the majority are most frequently on the road by bike, followed by tram, on foot and the car. The desire for better conditions for cycling, followed by improved offers for pedestrians and public transport.

Mobility Director Paul Georg Wandrey calls the citizens: on the inside for active participation and is planning the next phase of the participation process for autumn 2025. There will be public forums to discuss the goals and mission statement for future mobility in Darmstadt. The dates have already been determined: On Friday, September 12th, the Forum Nord will take place, followed by the city center forum on Saturday, September 13th, and the forum south on Wednesday, September 17th.

The changes in traffic behavior are not only important locally. A study on everyday mobility that was carried out as part of the research project "Mobility in cities - SRV" shows similar trends. Over 280,000 people in around 500 municipalities were interviewed, and the results illustrated that foot and cycling has increased in particular.
