Young CDU star Schimmel wins mayoral election in Pfungstadt!
A new wind is blowing over Pfungstadt: Maximilian Schimmel, a 36-year-old CDU politician, won the runoff for the mayoral election on October 26, 2025 and will take over the office from January 1, 2026. With 58.4% of the vote, Schimmel prevailed over his challenger Katrin Seeger from the SPD, who received 41.6%. Voter turnout was 47.1%, which indicates a keen interest among citizens in the future of their city. Schimmel has made a name for himself in the political arena, having been a member of the Hessian state parliament since last year and previously working for Deutsche Bahn.
In the first round of voting, which took place four weeks ago, Schimmel received 39% of the vote, while Seeger only managed 21.8%.
