Bensheim/Auerbach manages to catch up: Torfestival against Zwickau!

On Saturday evening there was a handball fireworks display in Elsenfeld: HSG Bensheim/Auerbach defeated BSV Sachsen Zwickau with a whopping 43:38. This makes this encounter the highest-scoring game of the current season. A total of an impressive 81 goals were scored, which captivated the audience.

However, the first half was not to the Bensheimers' taste. We went into the locker room with a deficit of 16:18. Zwickau goalkeeper Barbara Györi showed a strong performance by defusing three seven-meter penalties.

Strong comeback in the second half

The second round, however, brought a turning point. Bensheim/Auerbach started with a furious 5-0 run and turned the game from 20:23 to 25:23. Key players in this run were Nina Engel, Lucie-Marie Kretzschmar and Mareike Thomaier, who scored crucial goals and led the team to control the game.

Coach Ilka Fickinger commented on the game after the game: “I was dissatisfied with the first half, but the reaction in the second half was fantastic.” It is clear that the Bensheimers showed a completely different face in the second half of the game and thrilled the spectators with their offensive game.

Bad luck with injuries at Bensheim

However, one downside dampened the mood: Luisa Gurtelschmied had to miss the final training session due to an injury and was unable to play. Further investigations are pending, which of course keeps the coach and the team busy. Such failures are not easy to compensate for in a league as intense as the Women's Handball Bundesliga.

After this matchday, the Bensheim women can look forward to the coming period with optimism. With such a strong team spirit and an impressive second half, they will certainly attract attention in the next few games. As the coach says, the team shows that it can pull together even in critical moments.
