State-of-the-art emergency medical vehicles: rescue revolutionized in the Vogelsberg district!
In a mixed time when every effort counts, the... Vogelsberg district provided fresh impetus for its emergency medicine. On September 28, 2025, two new emergency medical vehicles (NEF) were put into operation in Lauterbach and Alsfeld. Another vehicle is available as a reserve so that we can intervene quickly if necessary. This investment is part of a comprehensive modernization that focuses on saving lives.
The new NEF, which will be integrated into the rescue stations, have the most modern medical technology. These include sonography and blood gas analysis, technologies that can be crucial in emergency situations. Every year, the rescue teams in the Vogelsberg district carry out around 2,700 missions, where every second counts.
All-round modern facilities
A look at the technical details of the vehicles shows that DRK rescue service Central Hesse (RDMH) has provided a total of eleven new NEFs for the districts of Marburg-Biedenkopf, Gießen, Lahn-Dill-Kreis and Vogelsbergkreis. The equipment includes not only ECG/defibrillators, but also suction pumps, video laryngoscopes and ventilators and resuscitation devices. The vehicles also have special restraint systems for infants. Knowledge of the right equipment sharpens the effectiveness of teams in emergency situations.
The vehicles are based on the reliable Mercedes Benz Vito 4×4. During the interior design, particular attention was paid to safety and ergonomic working conditions. This means that the primary materials can be easily removed from the tailgate. Sliding doors and pull-out compartments allow for quick access - a real advantage when every minute counts.
Investment for the future
The entire project entails considerable costs: over two million euros were invested in the new vehicles. This new acquisition is part of a larger fleet change that will continue next year. To ensure optimal use of the new technology, improvements have also been made to the handling of the emergency backpack and the center console. This includes, for example, a rotating individual seat in the vehicle interior, which creates a protected workplace.
As if that wasn't enough, the vehicle lettering has also been updated. With increased yellow warning color and strong blue light bars, the new NEF are now even more visible in road traffic. These measures maximize the safety of both emergency responders and patients in need of rapid assistance.
The initiative, which was further optimized through employee feedback, shows that people here are serious about the future of emergency medicine. The Vogelsberg district is therefore well prepared for the challenges ahead, even if they can sometimes be unforeseeable.
