Magical vernissage: Alsfeld's town hall in miniature format inspires!
What might the new model of the historic Alsfeld town hall be all about? Readers will find the answer at yesterday's opening, which took place on June 13, 2025 in the beautiful town hall. Patrick Kosog, a 31-year-old surveyor from Wülfrath, presented his detailed model of the town hall on a scale of 1:40. Mayor Stephan Paule was also present and together they enjoyed the well-deserved applause from the visitors after the model was unveiled. It's not everyday that a work of art like this leaves viewers in awe, and the enthusiasm for the city and the building was palpable. Kosog had originally planned to recreate another well-known town hall, but quickly took a liking to the beauty of the Alsfeld town hall.
Based on technical drawings and old photographs from 1912, Kosog created a work that impresses with its attention to detail. From accessible halls and spiral staircases to the mayor's office and a magnificent meeting room - the model offers a comprehensive insight into the true-to-original replica. Even the 5,500 roof tiles were meticulously added. Kosog traveled with his family from North Rhine-Westphalia and praised the city that offered him so much inspiration. He was supported in his project primarily by Dr. Norbert Hansen, the former city archivist.

However, the artist's commitment goes beyond the town hall model. Another exhibition entitled “Buildings and their architectures” is currently being shown in the Wülfrath town hall. Here Kosog presents impressive works made of Lego as well as painted views of Wülfrather. Particularly noteworthy is the model of Aprath Castle, which can also be seen on canvas. This clever combination of art made from clamping blocks and painting makes the hearts of those interested in architecture beat faster. Kosog has been passionate about architecture since the age of seven and delights visitors with historical views created during his travels.
The vernissage of the Alsfeld town hall is just the beginning of the exhibition, which will continue to amaze for several months. If you would like to take a look at the magnificent model for yourself, you have the option of taking guided tours on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. There are also guided tours of the old town that start every Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. For those who wish to come during the week, viewing is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you want to take a little memory home with you, you can purchase merchandise items such as key chains, 3D town hall lamps, postcards and books that will be available for purchase.
The interest in such creative projects shows once again how art in public spaces can enrich the local cultural scene. Art is often viewed in museums or galleries, but its impact is particularly felt in city culture and in famous squares. Events like the vernissage not only attract art lovers, but also citizens who are committed to their city and its history.
As was noted in a public discussion about art in urban spaces in Greifswald, art unites people and stimulates thought. Such projects can help to revitalize urban areas and promote citizens’ identification with their surroundings. Discussions about art in public spaces show the great interest in alternative forms of expression and open up new perspectives for urban design.
