Boxing club Fulda between successes and an urgent lack of space!

Boxing in Fulda is alive! The Fulda boxing club, founded in 1997, has developed into a permanent fixture in the Hessian sports scene in recent years. With around 20 members aged 14 to 50, the community is both young and experienced. Coach Ogün Özalp has been in office for two years and took over as coach from his uncle Kemal Sutkaynatan. Thanks to the constant growth of young talent and commitment to competitions, the club does a good business in promoting young talent.

Technique is the be-all and end-all of boxing. That's why training takes place four times a week, with a clear focus on improving technique and physical fitness. There are currently eleven boxers among the active ones who regularly take part in tournaments. One highlight is already emerging: Elida Deniz Özalp is preparing intensively for the European Fusion Cup in Kaufbeuren. A perfect example of the drive and ambition that the members bring to the rings.

A place for winners

Despite the successes, the club faces an urgent challenge. The current training facility in the CleverFit Studio is only temporary. Previously, the boxing club was forced to give up its premises at the Jewish community due to a lack of space. The search for permanent training space could determine the future of the club. A successful Hesse championship in September will be the next sporting goal and could give the club new momentum.

In the last two years, the Fulda boxing club took part in a total of 16 events and won almost all fights. This track record speaks volumes about the commitment and talent that lies within the club. But the hope for better training conditions remains: a long-term location could make the difference for aspiring talents.

Boxing in Germany: A long road

Competition and signposts are a constant topic for boxing in Germany too. The development of amateur boxing in Germany goes back to the founding of the German Reich Association for Amateur Boxing (DRfAB) in 1920, when the first German championships took place. In the decades that followed, boxing experienced ups and downs, particularly under Nazi rule, when the organization was renamed and placed under the control of the Reichsfachamt. This ultimately led to the founding of the German Amateur Boxing Association (DABV) in 1949.

The integration of boxing into the school system and the support from the association contributed to numerous boxers from Germany achieving success at international competitions - be it at the Olympic Games or World Championships. In recent years, the DABV has produced new talents who not only shine in the ring, but also put sportsmanship in the foreground.

In summary, it can be said: The Fulda boxing club is on solid ground, and the search for a permanent place for training could perhaps open the next chapter of the success story. Next September we can look forward to the Hessen Championship and whether the boxers from Fulda will continue to shake up the ranks.
