Parents in Schwebda outraged: chaos in the daycare center and new management is causing unrest!

In Schwebda, at the “Löwenzahn” daycare center, parents’ tempers are boiling. After months of chaos, which gave way to a brief period of calm, they are stunned by the community's decision to appoint a new facility management. This decision concerns an educator from Jestädt who has had no previous experience at the Schwebda daycare center. Parents, who have already called a meeting to protest the community board's move, are concerned about future developments.

In the last kindergarten year, the Fuchs group, which looks after 17 children between the ages of 3 and 6, was affected by significant problems. The situation escalated and teachers lost control of the children. These were divided into “good” and “bad” while order in the group room collapsed. Not only were there difficulties with the breakfast ritual and using the toilet, many parents also reported that their children were noticeably aggressive at home. These developments alarmed the parents, who tried to clarify their concerns through discussions with the general manager and the head at the time - but without success.

Parents are looking for solutions

In January 2025, parent representatives were finally invited to the municipal administration. But the mayor saw no need for change, which increased the unrest. It was not until February 2025 that the concerned parents contacted the daycare supervisor. This stated that “there is no longer any pedagogical work to be seen here” – a diagnosis that further fueled the existing frustration. Fortunately, in March of this year, a younger teacher was transferred to Schwebda, who turned out to be a stroke of luck and noticeably improved the situation.

However, on July 17, 2025, a day that was anything but pleasant for the parents, there was sobering news: the young educator will not have the opportunity to take over the management position and is planning to leave the daycare center. Parents raise concerns about possible nepotism and personal antipathies within the workforce. The municipality's first councilor, however, explains that the decision is based on long-term considerations and that the new educator has all the necessary qualifications. These words are met with skepticism.

The situation at the swimming fronts

In addition to the challenges in daycare, there is another problem that is important to many parents in Schwebda: the increasing number of children who cannot swim. According to the DLRG Hesse, around 20% of primary school students do not have the necessary swimming skills as soon as they move on to secondary school. Maximilian Faber and Michael Hohmann from the DLRG urge parents to take responsibility in order to reverse this development. “Swimming should be compulsory,” they demand – a view that resonates with many parents, but also sparks discussions about the “all-inclusive mentality.” Parents report being overwhelmed, not only when it comes to swimming, but also when it comes to using smartphones. Almost one in ten children between the ages of 2 and 5 now have their own cell phone, which raises additional concerns about peer pressure and media use.

In view of these profound challenges, the parents in Schwebda have no choice but to contact the supervisory authorities again and hope for a positive turnaround. A call for reason within the community could help to quickly resolve the deadlock and guide the children into a better future. Because one thing is clear: a lot is important here for the education and well-being of the next generation.
