City cycling 2025: All 16 municipalities cycle for health and climate!
It is a significant step for cycling in the Werra-Meißner district: for the first time in 2025, all 16 municipalities in the district and the district itself will take part in the popular “City Cycling” competition. This will take place from September 1st to 21st and is a welcome opportunity for all participating communities to promote cycling and at the same time make a contribution to climate protection. The campaign not only aims to improve your health through more exercise, but also to save costs.
Anyone who wants to cycle can easily register their trips using an app or browser. All bicycles are permitted; no matter whether it is the traditional bike or more modern versions. If you want to count your kilometers, you can do so in the free city cycling app. True to the motto: Achieve a lot with little effort!
School cycling and special awards
Schools are also warmly invited to take part in school cycling, which has been supported by a special ranking since 2014. The focus here is on promoting independent mobility for children and young people. For all participants, the routes cycled are recorded via GPS and evaluated anonymously. This provides valuable traffic planning data that can be used for the future of cycling in the region.
This year, for the first time, the competition is being organized by the Werra-Meißner district, which enables all municipalities to participate. Special achievements will be honored at a festive awards ceremony in the fall, and it will be exciting to see who comes out on top.
The “City Cycling” initiative is supported by the Climate Alliance network and has become an integral part of many municipalities since it was founded in 2008. Take the opportunity to count your bike rides and enter the competition!
