Eschwegen's Landgrave's Castle: SPD demands new bridge and speed limit!
A lot is happening in Eschwege! The renovation work on the Landgrave's Castle is gaining momentum and promises to make the historical landmark shine in new splendor. Work has been going on on the castle for over a year and the city administration's plans are ambitious. The facade of the castle will be plastered again after the hanging structure has already been successfully saved. The work revealed impressive wall paintings inside, which are now being secured. This is reported by the Werra Rundschau.
But that's not all that awaits citizens at the next city council meeting. The SPD parliamentary group has prepared three motions that will be voted on on June 18th. Among other things, the applications call for a speed limit of 30 km/h in front of schools, daycare centers and retirement homes - a concern that not only serves safety, but also strengthens the focus on noise reduction in urban development.
Redevelopment and urban development
As part of the urban redevelopment, the city also attaches great importance to the further development of its old town district. Citizens are invited to actively participate in the design and contribute their ideas. Particularly noteworthy is the “Building in Existing II” incentive program, which offers grants for the reactivation and energetic upgrade of vacant buildings in the city center that are in need of renovation. The aim is to preserve the historical building structure and at the same time meet modern living space requirements, as the Eschwege website explains.
Another proposal from the SPD concerns the construction of a new bridge over the Werra, which should provide better access to the river island of Werdchen. The situation is confusing because the current access to the island is often perceived as inadequate. A new bridge, which is supposed to lead behind the allotment gardens towards the parking spaces on Postweg, could definitely help here. This bridge is designed for vehicles up to 18 tons and could also have a positive impact on canoeing and rowing operations in the area, as temporary bridges often have to be built due to low headroom. The current traffic situation doesn't make this easy, especially during events.
Overall, the renovation work and the SPD's new plans make it clear that Eschwege is heading towards a promising future. The city is developing and putting the needs of its citizens at the center. The renovation of the Landgrave's Castle, the planned facade and the focus on safe traffic flow are important steps to further improve the quality of life in Eschwege.
