1250 years of Ulfen: A celebration for the whole family in the heart of the village!
In Ulfen, a small district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district, the 1250th anniversary was celebrated this weekend. These celebrations, which took place from June 13 to 15, 2025, transform the village into a place full of joy and tradition. How Werra-Rundschau reported, the celebrations extended across the entire village and offered numerous program items for young and old.
The celebrations began with a celebratory service in St. John's Church, which took place on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, the highlights took place around the church, the homestead and the old school. This district can be imagined as a busy bee house as the village pays homage to its historic heritage.
A lively parade
The standing parade on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. presented the local associations and the history of the community in the best possible way. How HNA Many clubs took part, including basket weavers from Alheim and a liqueur stand from Lüderbach. A highlight was the anniversary celebration of the Ulfener Jungs brass band, which turned 50 years old. This type of celebration is not only a look back at history, but also a strong bond that holds the community firmly together.
Another attraction was the presentation of the “Safety Mile”. Here, visitors were able to try out simulators and visit informative booths run by the district traffic guard. A celebration of this nature shows the importance of both celebrating locally and raising awareness about safety.
A variety of attractions
The offerings were varied: from wild boar goulash, prepared by the reservists' comradeship, to a children's rally with exciting questions at various stands, to the popular tractor and vintage car exhibition. The younger guests didn't miss out either: pony rides and encounters with donkeys, sheep and goats made the day particularly inviting for the families.
The visitors were treated to coffee and cake from the Ulfen rural women's association from 2 p.m. in the festival tent, and from 3 p.m. various brass music performances in the festival tent created an exuberant atmosphere. The Kita Wiesenwichtel and the Wiesenschule, both of which also celebrated anniversaries - 50 and 70 years - contributed to the entertainment with their demonstrations. The Wiesenschule showed a Pippi Longstocking dance and a school song that won the hearts of the audience.
Festivals as cultural components
Such cultural festivals are not only a look back at one's own history, but also a lively platform for community and integration. How Culture and nature highlights, such events promote social cohesion and help strengthen regional identities. This was demonstrated in a wonderful way in Ulfen. The traditional customs, refreshed with regional decorations and current performances, leave no doubt that the values and traditions of the place remain alive.
With a varied program that included all generations, it became clear that Ulfen not only looks back on a long, historic existence, but can also look forward to the coming years. A small village that shows how important traditions are in strengthening the sense of unity and keeping the community together.
