1250 years of Ulfen: A celebration of music and community for the anniversary!

Ulfen experienced a very special celebration on June 16, 2025: The place celebrated its 1250th anniversary, coupled with the 50th anniversary of the “Ulfener Jungs” brass band. These celebrations were not only an opportunity to reminisce, but also to showcase new talent and strengthen the community. A colorful program was offered as part of the festival in the Ulfen sports hall.

As the Hessian/Lower Saxony General reports, Lilly Mißler and Josephine Brenk led through their performances for the first time and focused on the important role of girls and women in club music. Mayor Michael Stein gave a moving speech in which he outlined the long history of Ulfen from the Neolithic Age to its first documented mention in 775. He highlighted how important Ulfen once was as a trading place with a customs station and a solid educational structure.

A look back at 50 years of musical community

The “Ulfener Jungs” brass band was founded in 1975 by Johann Siebert. Originally formed by a group of trumpet students, the band has expanded significantly over the years. According to the Club history The formation initially consisted of trumpets, later trombones, drums as well as tenor horns and baritones were added. The band now has around 50 active members and has established itself as an integral part of cultural life in Ulfen. The orchestra has been musically directed by Michael Rimbach since 1993, while young talent continues to have a high priority.

Norbert Michael, the chairman of the brass band, reflected on the club's exciting 50-year history during the celebration. In this context, the constant promotion of young talent for rural youth was also emphasized, which makes a decisive contribution to active leisure activities. Interest in brass music is continuously promoted through regular instrumental lessons and the organization of an “open day”.

Together into the future

The political representatives were also not left out: Mayor Thomas Eckhardt and Hanselmeister Daniel Kohl presented a tree bench as an anniversary gift. District Administrator Nicole Rathgeber and City Councilor Gerhard Mutter emphasized the role of social engagement in the community and upheld the importance of music as a unifying element. In addition, numerous honors were presented to active and passive members of the brass band, which were carried out by Nicole Rathgeber and the board. The evening was accompanied musically by conductor Ann-Katrin Schreiber, who thrilled the audience with a varied program.
