Waldeck-Frankenberg: Tempo 30 for more safety in road traffic!

Waldeck-Frankenberg, Deutschland - More and more people are thinking about traffic safety in our cities. So also in Waldeck-Frankenberg, where the goal is clear: fewer traffic fatalities. The Federal Ministry of Transport has launched the "Vision Zero" program, which provides for a drastic reduction in road fatalities in Germany by 40 percent by 2030. This ambitious plan should also noticeably reduce the number of seriously injured. A look at the figures from 2023 shows that a total of 2.52 million traffic accidents occurred in Germany, which tragically cost 2,839 people.

Over two thirds of the accidents passed in urban areas - cyclists and pedestrians are often the victims. The traffic integration in the cities are of crucial importance in order to create a safe environment for all road users. That is why the speed limits are in the focus of municipalities and the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV). Several Tempo 30 zones have already been introduced in Waldeck-Frankenberg or are planned, which was addressed positively from the political side, including the Greens. Dr. Peter Koswig from the Greens noted that the new road traffic regulations take equal importance to all road users and that mayor in Hesse have more decision -making scope for speed controls.

The role of the municipalities

in Hessen, the mayors are in charge when it comes to traffic authorities at district roads. This makes it possible to take appropriate measures faster at neuralgic points such as playgrounds and school routes. First district member Karl-Friedrich Frese pointed out that the improvement of the local passages requires the cooperation of all financing providers. It is currently being worked on to further optimize the conditions at existing focal points.

The “Vision Zero” strategy is based on the goals of the European Union, which almost no more racing dead strives for by 2050. The developments in the cities can be understood in Vision Zero Monitor, which continuously prepares data on accident victims and compares them with the EU goals.

innovations for more security

In addition to the already existing programs, the BMDV promotes projects, which in particular focus on road users. For example, the “Collision Zero” project aims to reduce inner -city traffic accidents by using virtual reality for traffic education. An algorithm identifies dangerous intersections and schools, which improves prevention and sensitization of the population. Facets like this are necessary to avoid tragic traffic accidents in the future.

With 15.4 million euros annually for accident prevention, the federal government ensures that cities and municipalities receive the necessary funds in order to significantly improve traffic safety. The two projects "Collision Zero" and "Kisstra" are prominent examples of innovative approaches that aim to optimize the transport infrastructure and reduce the number of accidents. The developments in the field of traffic safety are therefore promising, and it is to be hoped that the numbers will soon show a positive turn. For the residents of Waldeck-Frankenberg, this means less fear in road traffic and more space for safe cooperation.
