Route closure until August: Trains between Wolfhagen and Kassel are canceled!
On July 1, 2025, passengers in the Kassel district will be confronted with significant restrictions on train traffic. As of today, the train route between Wolfhagen and Zierenberg is completely closed due to construction work. The affected lines RB4 and RT4, which will not run during the entire Hessian summer holidays, deserve special attention. This not only ensures longer travel times, but also a switch to rail replacement transport (SEV), which takes over the lost connections. HNA reports that construction work on the bridges between Wolfhagen and Altenhasungen began on June 17th and will last until August 11th.
The trains on the RB4 line, which are being replaced by direct buses between Wolfhagen and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, are particularly affected. These buses run without additional stops and some trains also have an earlier departure. The RegioTram line RT4 will also be replaced by buses, which go to all stops and reroute passengers accordingly. What's exciting is that the buses will stop in Wolfhagen and Zierenberg if passengers travel to or from these no longer available stops. NPT points out the need to check trips in advance to avoid surprises.
Always construction work
The construction sites are diverse: In addition to the bridge renovation, repairs are also taking place on other railway overpasses. HNA reports that three railway overpasses in this section will be out of service during the work. Travelers should therefore be prepared for comprehensive rail replacement services.
In addition, there will be serious closures between Vellmar-Obervellmar and Kassel main station from July 28, 2025. While no changes are expected in the RB4 section, it affects the RT4 and RT1, which will also be integrated into the replacement traffic. This also offers stops at other regional stations to enable passengers to bypass the closed parts.
Tips for travelers
What does this mean for passengers? In order to keep the inconvenience to a minimum, it is advisable to check the information about the timetable regularly. The NVV has created numerous communication channels for this purpose: In addition to the easy-to-use NVV app, detailed information is available at nvv.de/fahrplanauskunft to find. Information about current traffic conditions is also available daily between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. via the toll-free service telephone (0800-939-0800).
Ultimately, patience and flexibility are required when construction work on the rail transport infrastructure again results in longer travel times. Passengers traveling in the coming weeks will also be required to be careful when planning their journey.
