New life in Ziegenhain: Schwalm bread shop opens huge branch!
Something is happening again in Ziegenhain, a district of Schwalmstadt. After being vacant for years, the former Logo drinks market on Wiederholdstrasse is undergoing extensive renovation. This reports Hessian Lower Saxony General. The renowned Schwälmer Brotladen company is planning to open its largest branch here with an impressive 500 square meter room.
This new settlement not only brings a breath of fresh air to the region, but also numerous jobs. Six full-time positions and additional part-time employees are being sought to support the operation. The new branch will be open seven days a week and will offer numerous attractions: a sales counter, a café and an event area that will be used for training and product development. The opening is planned for late autumn, and the first Christmas cookies are already being announced in November.
Investment in the future
The investment of over half a million euros in this project shows the commitment of the Schwalm bread shop, which has been family-owned since 1907 and is now run by the fifth generation. Jürgen Viehmeier, who is responsible for the planning, has already submitted building applications and is planning, among other things, to visually upgrade the former beverage market with a new facade and a covered terrace.
According to the company, floor-to-ceiling window openings have another advantage: They should flood the room with more light and create an inviting ambience. We are also considering installing a photovoltaic system for your own use. “Our goal is to make bread culture tangible,” explains Viehmeier.
Schwalmer Bread Shop relies on training
The importance of vocational training must not be forgotten in this context. The Schwalm bread shop trains people in three different professions: bakery, pastry shop and sales. In the last three years, 55 trainees have successfully completed their training. This shows how important it is for those responsible to support the next generation. A current position paper also points out the need to do something about the loss of specialist classes in the region. Only if we strengthen local education can we secure the next generation of professionals in the long term Baker Schwalm-Eder reported.
Considerations are also underway to pay more attention to rural areas. Previous educational policy instruments have often resulted in training opportunities being concentrated in regional centers. This poses the risk that young people in the region will emigrate, which ultimately harms the local economy.
Overall, it can be said that this new development is of great importance not only for the Schwalm bread shop, but also for Ziegenhain. The combination of modernization, job creation and increased vocational training is a positive signal for the region.
