New women's regulars' table of the Greens: exchange and networking in Wabern!

The Schwalm-Eder district can look forward to a breath of fresh air in the area of women's politics. The district association Alliance 90/The Greens has launched a new women's regulars' table, which is intended to provide an important platform for the exchange and networking of Green women. The aim is to create a forum for current discussions on women's policy issues and to provide information from the State Women's Council. The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the office in Wabern and will be held every other month in the future. This was announced in an article by SEK News, which highlights the initiative as a significant step towards the advancement of women in the region.

Stefanie Pies, the spokeswoman for the Green Schwalm-Eder, emphasizes the relevance of the regulars' table. “The regulars’ table is not just for members,” she emphasizes. Women should gather here, regardless of their party affiliation, to exchange ideas and network. This is particularly important at a time when women's issues need to be brought into the spotlight more than ever.

Solidarity and feminist politics

The response at the federal level shows how deeply rooted the issue is. At the Federal Women's Conference in Mannheim, chaired by Ricarda Lang, federal chairwoman of the Green Party, the importance of feminist politics was clearly emphasized. Lang commemorated the anniversary of the death of Iranian activist Jina Mahsa Amini and thereby showed solidarity with the people of Iran. Numerous Green politicians who actively support women's rights took part in this conference. Your message? “Welcome, connect, celebrate!” – a call that could also resonate in Wabern.

The core themes of the conference included years of struggles for equality, which still play a central role in political discourse. To date, there are many challenges that need to be overcome because the goal of full political participation for women has not yet been achieved.

A look into the past

To provide context, International Women's Day, celebrated since 1911, reminds us of the successes but also the challenges women face. It is noteworthy that women in Germany only received the right to vote in 1918. Today, many women still suffer from physical or sexual violence, which underlines the need for initiatives such as the women's regular table. It is estimated that 35 percent of women have experienced violence - a horror that needs to be brought into greater public awareness.

In Germany, the political representation of women has increased, but equality remains a challenge in many areas of life. The first equality report from 2011 clearly showed the need for action in different phases of life. It is therefore pleasing that the women's regulars' table in the Schwalm-Eder district serves as a platform to address these issues in the first place and discuss solutions.

The initiatives in Wabern are a step in the right direction and show that there is no lack of commitment when it comes to women's concerns. So we can only hope that many women use the meetings to exchange ideas and support each other in a safe space.
