Flame inferno in Singlis: car burns, house badly damaged!

On the night of August 10, 2025, the Schwalm-Eder district was rocked by a devastating fire that broke out in Singlis. The fire brigades from Singlis, Borken and Gombeth were alerted at around 4:30 a.m. after residents noticed the flames. The fire broke out under a carport, where a van and a garden shed burst into flames. The fire spread to the neighboring house faster than expected and caused massive damage.

The affected residents, including two men aged 69 and 55 and a 64-year-old woman, were fortunately able to escape the building unscathed. However, the fire caused some disasters, although there were no injuries. Due to the enormous heat, windows in the house burst and smoke and fire-fighting water entered the apartment. To bring the situation under control, firefighters used positive pressure fans and water vacuums, while a thermal imaging camera was used to check for a possible fire in the roof area. It turned out that there was no danger from above.

Massive damage and causes unclear

The damage totals around 250,000 euros. Not only was the vehicle under the carport damaged, but also a VW Sharan on the neighboring property. An ambulance in the yard also suffered significant damage, as did the blinds and plastic roofing on the front door of the neighboring building. After the fire-related activities, clean-up and extinguishing work was required until Sunday afternoon, and a total of 51 emergency services were deployed under the direction of city fire inspector Alexander Wilhelm.

The cause of the fire is currently unclear. The investigation is ongoing and it remains to be seen what exactly caused this fateful incident. A look at the statistics on the causes of fire damage shows that technical defects and human error are common reasons for such fires.
