Festive singing: Ziegenhainer salad fair starts with music and festivities

On Wednesday evening, the traditional singing of the 297th Ziegenhainer salad fair was ceremoniously opened on the parade ground. The event, which once again captivated numerous visitors, was all about the good atmosphere, which was further fueled by the summer temperatures. Mayor Tobias Kreuter and Andree Dunkel opened the singing with a communal act, while the hunting horns of the Hubertus district hunting club sounded from the tower of the castle church. The evening was musically accompanied by the “Steina Mixed Choir” and the band “The Sunlights”, who ensured an exuberant celebration feeling.

But the singing was just the start of a colorful fair program. The official opening of the fair traditionally takes place on Friday evening with the tapping of draft beer in the festival tent. Before that, guests can look forward to eating lattes in the festival tent and the 7th Ziegenhainer duck race on the Schwalm on Thursday. A special highlight on Thursday evening is the rock evening with the band “Just Queen”. There's sure to be something for every musical taste here!

With special attractions and exhibitions

Another highlight of the festival is the exhibition on the 50th anniversary of Vincent Burek's death in the Schwalm Museum, which gives visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in history. These cultural inserts expand the traditional fair experience and offer guests and locals alike interesting perspectives.

The Ziegenhainer fair has a long-standing tradition and has become established as part of the many folk festivals in Germany. These folk festivals, also known as fairs or fairgrounds, attract around 190 million people every year, depending on the weather. And the Ziegenhainer salad fair is no exception!

The program for the coming days

Friday starts at 7 p.m. with a celebratory march from the town hall to Alleeplatz. This is followed by the eagerly awaited tapping of the keg, followed by a musical evening with the band “Next Chapter”, to which admission is free. On Saturday, the fraternity's traditional serenade games and a children's afternoon in the festival tent are on the program. In the evening, Reiner Irrsinn will perform with his band “Irrsinn Reloaded” – you can shake and celebrate with us here!

The big pageant will take place on Sunday, June 22nd at 2 p.m. Under the motto “50 Years of the German Fairy Tale Route”, it will celebrate the colors and joie de vivre of the region. There is also an ecumenical service in the festival tent on Sunday mornings, where you can come into harmony with the community. And in the evening, the “Schwälmer Neue Bühne” presents a music program that rounds off your visit to the fair.

On Monday at the fair, a fire drill will be carried out on the parade ground from 10:30 a.m., followed by the traditional lathing of the new citizens in the festival tent, musically accompanied by the “Schwalmgranaten”. In addition, Family Day takes place at the fairground from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with reduced prices - a perfect opportunity for families to spend a good time together.

The Ziegenhainer salad fair shows once again how much traditions are maintained in the region and that community and fun are the focus. A small piece of Hesse that has appeal far beyond the city limits!
