Advent 2025 campaign: Schwalm sets an example of charity!
In the Schwalm-Eder district, the contemplative time of Advent is ushered in with a special campaign. Today, October 25, 2025, the Advent campaign starts, which has been firmly anchored in the region for over 45 years. The aim is to support social projects and give people in need a helping hand during Advent. How HNA reports, the donations collected are passed on directly to those in need. For example, warm clothing or strollers can be financed.
Last year, the campaign raised an amount of 33,443 euros in the collection boxes, which was more than 32,000 euros the year before. Even though 5,602 euros were raised last season, the organizers suffered some setbacks, including theft of donation boxes. Nevertheless, the commitment remained strong, and a total of 34 companies and fundraisers from the Schwalm region took part.
Hard-working collectors in every corner
Particularly noteworthy is Detlef Krey from Ottrau, who was the most diligent fundraiser with 1,271 euros. In Ziegenhain, Dr. Ralph Lorenz collected 550 euros, while Simone Hertel in Seigertshausen collected 428 euros. By mid-January 2025, 10,200 euros had already been collected in the Fritzlar-Homberg district and over 17,000 euros in Melsungen. The fundraising campaign runs until January and is also supported in participating restaurants, businesses and practices.
“The money goes into the HNA campaign ‘Children for North Hesse’, which supports primary school projects,” added HNA. This initiative shows how important the commitment of citizens and entrepreneurs in the region is to strengthen the social network, especially in the cold season.
Bread for the World – Strong Funding
But this is not the only outstanding fundraising campaign in the region. NH24 reports that “Bread for the World” received a total of 1,850,886 euros from the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck in 2023, almost at the level of the previous year. The Schwalm-Eder church district stands out as the highest individual amount with 128,577.92 euros. Regionally, these are impressive sums made up of church district collections.
In total, “Bread for the World” supported 2,919 projects worldwide in 2023, with a strong focus on Africa and Asia. Around 91 percent of the funds went to development projects, while only 9 percent was used for advertising and administrative tasks. The German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) rates the organization with a low administrative share and in the best category.
The commitment in the Schwalm-Eder region shows that people care about solidarity and social justice. Whether with the Advent campaign or with “Bread for the World” – citizens prove that they are ready to help. Especially in the colder months, it is important to be there for each other and to strengthen the neighborhood.
