Start of the SG Flensburg-Handewitt season: All dates at a glance!
SG Flensburg-Handewitt started the new 2024/25 season with a lot of anticipation. While training in the Duburghalle is currently limited to a short break, the players are already looking forward to their individual training plan and vacation. An important date has been set: preparation starts on July 20th. In the first few days, the athletes can expect medical checks in Damp, a team photo and the premiere of the new run-in trailer. Coach Aleš Pajović emphasized that the focus at the beginning will be on athleticism.
An exciting season is ahead, and anticipation is increasing for the first test match on August 1st against HØJ Elite, the newly promoted team from Denmark. Hampus Wanne, a former FC Barcelona player, will be in the opponents' ranks. After the test match, the SG will go to Lund, where a training camp will be held with our cooperation partner Lugi. The GP JOULE Arena will remain closed over the summer due to construction work. The Jacob Cement Cup will take place in Sonderborg on August 8th, followed by a clash with TSV Vellmar on August 14th.
The successes of last season
Looking back on the previous season, SG Flensburg-Handewitt can be proud of their achievements. They won the EHF European League for the second time. In the final against Montpellier HB, Flensburg dominated the game and won 32:25 in front of 12,000 spectators in Hamburg. Lukas Jörgensen was the SG's best thrower with ten hits. Goalkeeper Kevin Möller shone with 19 saves and made a decisive contribution to the success, which was crowned with a goal from Emil Jakobsen in the 54th minute and subsequent celebrations. This victory also secures the SG a place in the next season of the European League.
In the previous season, SG Flensburg-Handewitt defeated Füchse Berlin 36:31 in the final of the EHF European League Final4. Here, too, it was an exciting match that they were able to win with a razor-thin lead of 15:14 at halftime. One of the great players on the field was Jakobsen, who laid the foundation for success with his goals.
Looking into the future
The organized games and events have already been determined. After the fight against TSV Vellmar, we will go to the HSG Premium Cup in Lingen, where prominent opponents such as Füchse Berlin and FC Barcelona are waiting. The “dress rehearsal” for the season is scheduled to take place on August 22nd in Aalborg, before things really get going with the first matchday of the DAIKIN HBL between August 28th and 31st. The SG will start an English week at the beginning of September, and the second main round of the DHB Cup awaits the Flensburg team in October. In addition, the group phase of the EHF European League begins on October 14th.
The anticipation of new challenges and the memory of past victories make SG Flensburg-Handewitt a team that continues to be very popular. Now it's time to prepare well for the tasks ahead and take the next steps in the exciting handball season.
