New landfill project in Hofgeismar: forest areas for expansion threatened!

In Hofgeismar, it will soon be rebuilt: from autumn 2025, comprehensive construction measures are to begin at the landfill. Uwe Pietsch, the head of the district waste disposal, has presented plans that not only affect the earthworks on the site, but also provide for a large expansion of the landfill. The expansion on 9000 square meters of city forest is planned in the southwestern direction, such as the HNA reported.

The signal -making development plan has already been decided by the city council. From July 7th, citizens and associations have the opportunity to give their statements in the town hall. In addition to the expansion of the area, the old weighing house is torn down at the entrance, since its foundations no longer meet the safety-related claims. The new weighing building is built near the truck storage space, while one of the two scales is moved to improve practical processes.

modern innovations and sustainable measures

The renovation work not only includes functional renovations, but also environmentally friendly solutions. With the new office complex, which is created at the site of the former reception building, a contribution to the creation of new jobs is also made. All new buildings are heated by a heat pump that replaces the previous oil heating. In addition, the fleet is to be expanded to include an electrically operated garbage vehicle, whereby the switch to electric vehicles will take a total of about 15 years.

A particularly exciting project is the planned expansion of the existing photovoltaic system by a new 5-megawatt system. A larger transformer station is required to support this additional system. With all of these measures that aim at sustainable waste recycling, the landfill is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Klimaschutz-kommune , modern landfills contribute to avoiding millions of tons of the greenhouse gas methane.

forest flow and compensation measures

Against the background of the clearing of 9000 square meters of forest are also provided for compensation measures. The landfill plans to carry out corresponding plantings in the Sababurg zoo. These measures are part of the legal requirements, since the landfill regulation regulates the establishment, operation, the decommissioning and aftercare of landfills. Deponia are still important for the disposal of heaviest waste, even if they are considered the worst type of waste treatment.

With a total investment of around one million euros, the entire renovation of the landfill will be created to about three years. When planning, care is taken to ensure that the redesign of the entrance area brings an improvement in traffic management in order to avoid traffic jams and problems.

Overall, the landfill in Hofgeismar seems to be on a promising path to work more sustainably and efficiently. The implementation of these ambitious projects strengthens waste disposal in the Kassel district and also brings ecological advantages for the region.
