Festive Weser lighting: Gieselwerder shines in the splendor of the 125-year-old bridge!

The airy celebration in Gieselwerder took place on July 21, 2025 and offered a colorful spectacle under the starry summer sky. That evening, the 125-year-old Weser Bridge was duly celebrated, which attracted over 2,000 visitors from the surrounding area. An event that has a tradition, as the Weser lighting has been an integral part of the community's event calendar since 1959. The whole thing was organized by the Gieselwerder local history and tourism association, supported by the volunteer fire department - there's a lot going on!

Visitors were able to fortify themselves at numerous snack and drink stands and let their taste buds be pampered. A real highlight was the musical opening, which was performed by the “Pipes & Drums” from Dransfeld and the party band “Tanzbar” from Vernawahlshausen. The “Weserlied”, traditionally sung by trombone choirs, was somewhat lost in the midst of the celebrations, but the mood still swayed in harmony with the sounds. The festival got underway with around 70 illuminated torch rafts floating down the river.

Fascinating lights and sounds

A magnificent 30 meter long wooden bridge arch shone to celebrate the anniversary and gave the event a very special touch. The Gieselwerder fire department set up impressive, illuminated water features that bathed the waterfront promenade in a dreamlike play of colors. The crowning finale was a spectacular spark waterfall during the fireworks display on the Weser Bridge, which made the hearts of everyone present beat faster.

The event ended in the early hours of the morning and many party rats didn't leave the area until around four o'clock. The next opportunity to experience the magic of Weser lighting is already waiting: a similar event will take place in Bad Karlshafen on July 26th, followed by another on August 5th in Vaake. As in previous years, this time the community will be celebrated, bringing the residents closer together and creating a true celebration of life in Gieselwerder. It remains to be seen how the upcoming celebrations will be organized, but one thing is certain: people's enthusiasm will remain high.
