75-year-old from Trendelburg dies tragically in a traffic accident!

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on the road between Trendelburg and the Borgentreich district of Manrode at around 2:10 p.m. A 75-year-old man from Trendelburg was on his way from Manrode towards Trendelburg when his vehicle suddenly left the road near the “Deiselberg”. The road was slightly sloping in this area.

The man's car drove through a ditch and overturned several times. Despite the quick response of emergency services who tried to revive him at the scene, the driver succumbed to his injuries. Tragically, no other vehicles or people were involved in the accident, potentially adding to the shock and grief for families. The 75-year-old's car was totaled and officers from the Hofgeismar police station recorded the incident. During the accident investigation, the state road was closed in both directions, which led to frequent traffic delays.

Statistics on traffic accidents in Germany

Unfortunately, such accidents are not isolated cases. According to current statistics from Germany, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in 2023 Statista reported. Although the number of accidents has risen steadily in recent decades, various studies also show positive developments in road safety. The number of traffic deaths has fallen from 19,193 in 1970 to 2,839 in 2023.

Nevertheless, the goal of “Vision Zero”, i.e. no traffic deaths by 2050, remains a major challenge for the EU transport ministers. The main causes of accidents resulting in personal injuries include insufficient distance, improper speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2023, around 15,700 alcohol-related accidents were recorded, resulting in 193 deaths.

Road safety measures and their importance

The comprehensive traffic accident statistics provided by Destatis are not only used to record accidents, but also to develop and improve measures for traffic safety, traffic education and infrastructure. By analyzing the causes of accidents, targeted measures can be derived to increase safety on our roads.

The recording of accidents also plays an important role in transport policy. Data on accidents with personal injuries, their causes and the vehicles involved are recorded. This information is essential to better understand the structure of accidents and to avoid future traffic accidents.

There is a lot of focus on road safety measures in the region and beyond to continue to ensure safety for all road users. Every accident is one too many, and the tragic incident in Trendelburg reminds us once again to be more careful on the roads.
