Vrchlabí thrilled: Successful annual results celebrated in Baunatal!

In Baunatal, on December 6, 2025, a positive assessment was made by the working group on the town twinning with Vrchlabí. The working group presented impressive results from the past year and at the same time was able to look back on the largest delegation from Vrchlabí in over ten years: More than 50 children and adults were guests in June, including an official delegation from the music school and numerous other guests. The organization of the visit was comprehensive, including accommodation, support and meals, which is particularly noteworthy.

Jeffrey Miller, chairman of the working group, was proud of how smoothly the visit went and the committed cooperation within the group. Deputy Klara Haubenreißer emphasized that new members could also be won, significantly supported by the intensification of activities after the Corona break. The program for the visitors was not only varied, but also cost-effective, which was particularly well received.

A highlight: football tournament and views

A very special highlight was a spontaneously organized football tournament in which teams from Vrchlabí and Baunatal competed against each other. Among those present were the mayors Jan Sobotka from Vrchlabí and Henry Richter from Baunatal, who accompanied the event and promoted exchange between the cities.

For the coming year 2026 there are already prospects of a second leg tournament in Vrchlabí, which will take place as part of a visit from June 10th to 14th. This anticipation shows that the partnership is still on the right track.

Collaboration across borders

The town twinning between Baunatal and Vrchlabí is not the only one that is lived with commitment and dynamism. As mestovrchlabi.cz reports, there have been contacts between the cities of Vrchlabí and the French holiday resorts of Trouville and Deauville since 1989. The partnership agreement was officially signed in 1993. Since then, many activities and cultural exchanges have been developed. The Vrchlabí High School and the Charles Mozin College are particularly active, enriching the area with numerous programs and events.

The intensive collaboration, despite the cities 1,400 kilometers away, ensures numerous friendships and a growing interest in French lessons in Vrchlabí as well as the ongoing Czech course in Trouville. This shows how successful urban diplomacy is possible even over long distances and how important exchange between generations is, as urban-diplomacy.de also illustrates.

Baunatal and Vrchlabí not only focus on sporting challenges, but also on harmonious coexistence, which is strengthened in the long term through cultural exchange and education. These partnerships show that regions can come closer through friendship and joint activities.
