After a two-year break, it's finally that time again: the Kassel Old Town Festival is just around the corner! From June 27th to 29th, 2025, Kassel's old town will become a pulsating center for regional culture, music and culinary delicacies. Festival visitors can look forward to an exciting program that offers something for every taste.

The festival officially opens on Friday at 4 p.m. There are a variety of attractions over the three days of the festival: live music, time travel into the city's history and hands-on activities promise an unforgettable experience. A new street food alley with international specialties awaits you if you're feeling peckish every now and then, and the expanded club alley puts Kassel's club life at the center. At Friedrichsplatz there will also be a fun fair for families to marvel at with fairground flair. A diverse program for everyone

The Old Town Festival offers a total of five stages at different places in the old town, each with a different musical focus. For example, visitors can expect choirs, orchestras, bands and DJ sounds at Königsplatz. The regional stage in the market hall presents artists from Kassel and the region, while the young art stage in the inner courtyard Dock 4 offers different music styles such as rock, pop and hip hop. Interesting performances also take place at the Twin Cities Square, where live music and dance performances are offered. A special highlight will be the journey through time to the medieval “Chassalla”, where visitors can experience the history of the city up close. The festival will take place on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., with entry to the old town festival being free. There are only costs for food, drinks and rides.

Traffic restrictions and organization

Since its founding in 2018, the Old Town Festival has developed into an important part of Kassel city life and emphasizes North Hesse culture. Another highlight will be the ASB's major disaster control exercise on June 28th, in which 640 emergency services and over 200 vehicles will be deployed. This not only underlines the safety of the festival, but also the preparations that are made to ensure an all-round successful event.
