Halloween chaos in northern Hesse: Police record 50 operations!
On Halloween night 2025, the police in northern Hesse remained heavily challenged. As the North Hesse Police Headquarters reports, there were around 50 operations, which represents an increase of around 20 operations compared to the previous year. The main causes were disturbances of the peace, damage to property caused by firecrackers being thrown and occasional physical altercations. Particularly noticeable were the disturbances of the peace that were observed in numerous communities, while in some cases the police were forced to issue eviction notices and initiate criminal proceedings.
There was an incident in Frankenberg in which two girls' jackets were damaged by fireworks. Unknown perpetrators are responsible for this incident and criminal proceedings have been opened for damage to property. Unfortunately, such incidents are not isolated, as the reports of damaged vehicles and other items show. Overall, citizens and emergency services were confronted with significant harassment that “far exceeded the limits of Halloween fun,” according to a police report.
Special incidents in Kassel-Waldau
In Kassel-Waldau, the fire brigade was called around 7:20 p.m. in the evening when two garbage containers on the school grounds caught fire, presumably caused by fireworks. Fortunately, the fire department was able to intervene quickly so that no damage was caused to the school building. Nevertheless, there were also complaints about firecrackers being ignited and inappropriate egg throwing, which mostly resulted in no major damage to property.
Riot in Hofgeismar and the surrounding area
Several police operations were necessary in Hofgeismar, particularly due to fireworks being set off and disturbances of the peace. In particular, an argument at the train station caused a stir when two men were slightly injured by gas and the perpetrators escaped. A 13-year-old from Grebenstein is also suspected of having broken the window of a bus shelter with a fire extinguisher. A particularly dangerous incident took place when unknown perpetrators placed warning beacons on the road, which led to an investigation into dangerous interference with road traffic.
More incidents in the region
The incidents were not limited to Kassel and Frankenberg. In Fuldatal, a front door was damaged by a firecracker, while in Niestetal, unknown people threw eggs against a facade. In Homberg, a metal trash can burned without causing any significant damage, and in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, traffic signs were knocked down. It was particularly chaotic in Gudensberg, where garbage cans were thrown onto the road.
Overall, Halloween night in northern Hesse reflected such a tense situation that the police had to take more explicit measures. The increase in the number of deployments by almost 20 compared to the previous year makes it clear that there is a need for action. Citizens are called upon to use fireworks and the festive occasion responsibly so that such measures become unnecessary in the future. Further information can be found in the reports from HNA and NH24.
