Christmas magic in Scotland: mulled wine, cookies and a festive atmosphere!

Schotten celebrated a wonderful weekend full of festive spirit at the Christmas market, which took place in the picturesque old town from December 6th to 8th, 2025. Despite a few rain showers, visitors were not deterred and flocked to the various attractions. A varied program awaited visitors from Friday to Sunday - including at the after-work market, which took place on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event locations, including the historic town hall, Marktstrasse and Europaplatz, were lovingly decorated and offered an inviting ambience for the 24 stand operators. These presented a variety of products and delicacies, including savory delicacies, sweet treats and strong mulled wine. The focus was particularly on the new wooden huts from Ulrichstein, which further enhanced the atmosphere of the market Frankfurter Neue Presse reported.

Diverse offers for young and old

At the various stands you could buy, among other things, homemade cookies from the parents of the Schotten daycare centers, which were intended to help finance the facilities. Two classes from the Vogelsberg School also offered their homemade waffles and punch for sale - a great way to support the school community!

The country women from Kaulström provided a special culinary highlight with their raclette on Europaplatz, while the brewing and cultural association BRAUmit offered its mulled beer - a treat for all beer lovers. A team of goats provided fun for the little guests and led them through the festively illuminated old town. The children were also happy to receive gifts from Santa Claus, who added a touch of magic to both holidays.

Cultural highlights for the whole family

A special experience was the pop choir concert by the gospel choir “Father’s Children” and “Swinging Voices”, which took place in the Liebfrauenkirche. The music was broadcast live over loudspeakers so that no visitor missed a part of the touching performance. At the same time, the church music support association in Schotten held a bazaar to support the musical work in the community and to offer homemade cookies.

The Christmas market in Schotten was not only a place of enjoyment, but also an important meeting place for families and friends where community was very important. The combination of festive music, lovingly designed stands and a wide range of offers made for an all-round successful event that will be remembered for a long time. A successful example of how you can still enjoy the anticipation of the holidays even in changeable weather!
