Ceremonial closing of the Church in Transition” exhibition in Friedberg!
Preparations for the finissage of the “Church in Transition – Designing (Sacral) Spaces Differently” project are in full swing. A ceremonial conclusion will be celebrated on September 14, 2025 in the Holy Spirit Church in Friedberg. The event marks a look back at twelve exciting days of the exhibition, which has already caused a sensation in many places.
At the finissage, regional representative Carola Daniel and education representative KEB Sirin Bernshausen will provide visitors with important data and facts about the exhibition period. Particularly pleasing: Regional cantor Kerstin Huwer will provide the celebratory setting with her organ playing. The event ends with a small reception, including a glass of champagne and the opportunity for personal exchange.
Active change in the church
The initiative behind this project impressively shows how the church is actively shaping change. At the heart of the movement is the focus on trust instead of fear, with the aim of positively shaping the world and one's own community. The members of the church see themselves as people of God who are guided by the Spirit of Christ. In difficult times, the management bodies take responsibility and support the transformation through intensive discussions and concrete suggestions.
This process is kept transparent for all interested parties with a specially set up website. Everyone is warmly invited to take part in the discussions and developments, which only benefits the church's sense of community and openness kirche-im-wandel.org reported.
Literary accompaniment and perspectives
In order to accompany the change not only practically but also theoretically, two important publications were published. The book "Which church needs music? Statements from church and politics", edited by Marius Schwemmer and Joachim Werz, highlights the role of music in the church and liturgy and is available to interested readers. In addition, the volume of essays “Church in Transition: Experiences and Perspectives” is published, edited by Albert Gerhards, which deals with the transformation of sacred spaces in Germany. These publications are part of a DFG research project that has been running since March 2020 and deals with theology, architecture and art history in an interdisciplinary manner.
These developments and the financial conditions of the publications mentioned clearly show how complex and innovative the change in the church is. The book was offered at an affordable price of 10.00 euros, while the comprehensive publication is available at 59.00 euros - a small price for so much knowledge.
Overall, the discussion and the associated publication of herder.de a deep insight into the current challenges and opportunities that change brings with it.
The finissage on September 14th will therefore not only be a look back at the exhibition, but also a look into the future of the church, which is in an exciting process of renewal.
