Discover Butzbach: Exciting city tours in August 2025!
The city of Butzbach has come up with a lot of ideas for August 2025 and invites everyone interested to take exciting city tours. A real highlight is experiencing history up close, on two dates that not only history fans should take note of.
On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the tour begins at 11:00 a.m. in front of the tourist information center at Marktplatz 19. Led by city guide Christine Borchers-Fanslau, the tour goes on a journey through history, with the focus on the impressive medieval city wall of Butzbach. At approximately 1,320 meters long, it is a significant historical landmark that has its origins in the 14th century. Part of the city wall was recently uncovered in Küchengartenweg and offers a fascinating insight into the past. A special look is also taken at Mauerstrasse, where two candle arch houses shine again thanks to a successful modernization in 2007.
Market traditions and city tours
A few days later, on August 31, 2025, also at 11:00 a.m., the city invites you to a tour entitled “The importance of the markets for Butzbach”. City guide Ilse Hellmann-Rupp will show how Butzbach has maintained traditions as a market town over the centuries. In addition to the large markets in autumn and spring, which once represented important meeting places for merchants and the population, the weekly markets also play an important role in daily supplies. More recent additions are the Christmas market and the after-work market, which enrich the cityscape.
The city tours are led by experienced city guides. Tickets are available at the tourist information center on the market square for €5.00 for adults and €3.00 for children, young people, students and severely disabled people (50% disability or more). Children under 10 can even take part for free.
Additional tours of the historical society
In addition, the Butzbach Historical Society offers a variety of guided tours in and around Butzbach. Members such as Günter Bidmon and Dagmar Storck are available to you as competent contacts. Bidmon leads tours of important historical sites such as the Evangelical St. Mark's Church, the late Gothic winged altar from 1517 in the Catholic parish church of St. Gottfried and the Wendelins Chapel. Tours of the Jewish cemeteries in Butzbach and Nieder-Weisel are also part of his offer.
Dagmar Storck, on the other hand, offers various thematic tours. These range from "F. L. Weidig - the pioneer to a place of democratic history" to the general city tour "A city and its history - of Romans, knights and reformers" to children's city tours. Each tour is a unique experience that brings Butzbach's history to life.
