Disappointment at EC Bad Nauheim: Only two goals despite 80 shots!

Last weekend EC Bad Nauheim suffered a bitter defeat against Starbulls Rosenheim. With a final score of 1:3 (0:1, 1:1, 0:1), coach Peter Russell's team remains in second-to-last place in the table in the German Ice Hockey League 2. In a game that took place in front of 2,276 spectators, Bad Nauheim showed an appealing performance, but was only able to score two goals despite 80 shots. This is not to the delight of the coach, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the offense. FNP reports that the team fired a total of 80 shots in the last two weeks, but was only able to celebrate two goals.

The game offered some exciting moments and the first third was characterized by tactics and strategy. Two video evidence requests created tension, but no goals were awarded either time. Teemu Pulkkinen scored the lead for the Starbulls with a penalty in the 19th minute. Fabian Dietz increased the score to 0:2 in the 25th minute, before Zach Kaiser brought Bad Nauheim back to 1:2 in the 33rd minute. Despite further chances, the EC failed to equalize. Scott Feser sealed the defeat with an empty-net goal in the final minute. The balance of the game shows a clear dominance of Bad Nauheim in terms of shots (33 to 24), but not in the effective exploitation of chances.

Squad changes and offensive weakness

The EC Bad Nauheim lineup featured some changes: Simon Gnyp returned to the lineup and replaced Xaver Tippmann, while the injured Philipp Kuhnekath and Taylor Vause remained out. The latter was not in the squad for the sixth time in a row. Another problem child in the game was the power play, which was unable to pose a goal threat. Justin MacPherson showed some effort, but picked up two penalties that put an additional strain on the team. Peter Russell stuck with his foreign quartet despite the team's repeated offensive weaknesses. As FNP reports, Russell expressed clear criticism of his team's lack of penetration.

The Starbulls, for their part, used their opportunities more efficiently and presented themselves as a solid team, especially after the signing of Teemu Pulkkinen as their fifth import player. With this addition, the Starbulls have strengthened their offense and were able to gain a strategic advantage with experienced players like Charlie Sarault, who also returned to the squad.

For the EC Bad Nauheim it is now important to work on efficiency and improve teamwork in order to get out of the current situation. With another crucial match on the horizon, the team must deliver to get out of the downward spiral.
