In Bad Nauheim, the residents are facing a violent upheaval: On Thursday evening, the city has raised the parking fees for the residents in a turbulent session - from 30 euros to a proud 120 euros per year. The decision, which was made in the city parliament by a large majority, should not only fill the city's own health insurers, but also regulate the parking pressure in the city center. The increase is seen as a measure so that residents of their vehicles are increasingly parked in garages or in their own parking spaces instead of blocking the streets. Specifically, the application, which survived several amendments, is the first of several new parking fee regulations that are due here.

The discussion about the new regulations was chaotic at the session, for example, an application for a meeting was rejected. Committee Chairman Manfred Jordis wanted to see clear results because the template had been on the table since November. These recent changes not only aim at resident parking, but also on the overall traffic control. The higher parking fees should help reduce traffic in the city center and to promote the use of large parking spaces.

Another decision concerns the city park regulations itself. In 2026, an additional parking area in Kurstrasse is planned. There are currently five residents' parking areas in Bad Nauheim: around the school center, west and east of the train station, in the Goldstein settlement and in the city center, where parking is only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays. The fact that the city is reacting with these measures is obvious - applicants had pointed out that many foreign cars park free of charge in the urban areas, which further increases the pressure on residents.

To counteract this, there will be a fee-based parking in Zone 1 in the city center (including parking, spa, luther, Luther, Hauptrichstrasse), which applies from Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The maximum parking time is two hours at a price of 50 cents per 15 minutes. Long -term parkers are to be redirected to the large parking spaces, and the fees for day tickets on the large pond will fall from 4 to 3 euros in the future. In this context, the proposal to reduce the parking zones from seven to four is particularly remarkable to relieve the traffic situation in the city center.

While environmental associations such as German Environmental Aid (DUH) are calling for higher fees, parts of politics rely on free parking. In 73 out of 104 municipalities examined, the fee is 1 euro or less per hour, which further fueled the discussion. Bad Nauheim also does not go into the trap of abolishing the "bun key", which enables free short -term parking. It is certain that the higher fees and the reduction of the parking zones not only aim at direct parking behavior, but also to an increased awareness of sustainable mobility. Traffic director Peter Krank emphasizes that the necessary preparatory work and fine work to implement the new fees are already planned in the budgetary approaches. The city has planned a total of 15,000 euros for the implementation of the new parking area.
