It was the Lark”: revival in the t-raum with new splendor!

The premiere of “It was the Lerche” will be celebrated in the Offenbacher t-raum at Wilhelmstrasse 13, all in the spirit of a special anniversary. The play by renowned playwright Ephraim Kishon, which celebrates its 20th anniversary at the Zimmertheater this year, will be staged again on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th. The performances begin at 8 p.m.

The plot of the humorous play has a clever twist: Romeo and Juliet survived their supposed suicide and have now been married for almost 30 years. But the harmony doesn't last long because the two have to struggle with their own challenges. While Romeo is stuck in his egocentricity, Juliet is annoyed by the family routine and her pubescent daughter Lucretia, who further stirs things up.

Colorful characters and confusion

The presence of William Shakespeare, who personally intervenes in the plot and probes the two spouses, is refreshing. The confusion and the humorous moments associated with it are not just a delight for die-hard theater lovers. Lucretia, who is quite taken with Shakespeare, creates additional amusing complications.

The newly staged performance brings an exciting cast to the stage. Sarah C. Baumann plays the role of Shakespeare, while Elena Hahn can be seen as Julia, Nurse and Lucretia. Frank Geisler takes on the role of Romeo, who also plays the role of Father Lorenzo. Together they capture the multitude of emotions and conflicts in marriage while also showcasing Kishon's trademark humor.

Ephraim Kishon: Master of Satire

Ephraim Kishon is known as one of the greatest satirists of our time. In his numerous works he addresses universal questions such as love, marriage and society, and “It Was the Lark” is no exception. The piece gives a lively insight into the challenges of everyday marital life, viewed with a pinch of irony and humor. Kishon, born in Hungary in 1924 and died in Tel Aviv in 2005, has enjoyed international popularity for more than 60 years and his works have been translated into 33 languages. Well-known pieces such as “The Wedding Certificate” and “It was the Lark” are considered international classics.

Viewers can look forward to an entertaining and humorous performance that appeals not only to married couples, but also to singles and young adults. Positive comments from the press praise the piece as “cheeky” and “heartily funny”, which speaks for the anticipation of the performances.

Whether you are a Shakespeare lover or just want to have a fun evening, the revival of It Was the Lark at t-raum is sure to be a highlight on Offenbach's cultural calendar. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this special theater experience!
