Repair Café in Maintal: Next appointment on September 20th!
In Maintal-Bischofsheim we'll be busy screwing, sewing and mending again on September 20th! From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the repair café in the Bischofsheim district center, Dörnigheimer Weg 25, opens its doors to everyone who wants to lovingly bring broken objects back to life. The volunteer team consists of experienced helpers who are available to provide advice and support.
What is fundamentally going on? Let's sharpen our eye for diversity! In the repair cafés, a concept founded by Martine Postma in Amsterdam in 2009, you can repair whatever your heart desires: electronics, bicycles, textiles, toys and much more. The idea behind it is not only practical craftsmanship, but also a step towards waste avoidance and sustainability. The participants bring their broken treasures with them and, together with the volunteers, try to make things workable again. This not only extends usage, but also saves resources, as the repaircafe.org site explains.
A place for tinkering together
“Never throw it away again!” could be the motto of the repair café. The initiators want to work with visitors to create a new mentality that promotes appreciation for repair knowledge. For example, there are also books for inspiration while tackling small and large repair projects. Anyone who would like to lend a hand is warmly invited to get actively involved, but chatting and enjoying coffee and cake while waiting can also create a disharmonious atmosphere.
A little note for everyone who comes by with electrical devices: It would be great if you could bring instructions or circuit diagrams with you. This makes the work easier for the repair professionals. In addition, each visitor is asked to only bring one item to repair to ensure flow. And very important: The repair café is not an ordinary service, but a place of collaboration where responsibility and liability are taken into one's own hands.
Sustainable projects in view
Viewed on a larger scale, there is an important circular economy idea behind the repair cafés, as the initiative rc-go.de makes clear. It is noted that many items are often abandoned far too early even though they could easily be repaired. A planned funding program “Repair instead of throwing away” aims to spread this idea and support projects. Up to 3,000 euros in funding can be available for repair infrastructure, tools and necessary qualification measures.

Anyone who has a good knack for repairs or is simply curious about how it all works is warmly invited to stop by the nearest repair café. Because one thing is clear: much more can be achieved together!
