Overall, the plans for the North Main S-Bahn are ambitious: In addition to two new stations in Frankfurt-Ost (deep) and Frankfurt-Fechenheim, a new tunnel section with two single-track tubes is also created on about 1.4 kilometers between constable guard and Frankfurt (Main) East. Around 20 kilometers of new tracks are also planned, which are connected to the Frankfurt S-Bahn tunnel.

a strong investment package

The costs for this mammoth project are not to be scoffed at and could be over two billion euros. Deutsche Bahn is investing over one billion euros in the first two construction phases, with Hesse promoting the project with almost 550 million euros. The investments aim to eliminate one of the largest bottlenecks in the German rail network and to significantly improve the traffic connection between Frankfurt and Hanau. A 15-minute cycle in the rush hours is firmly planned after completion.

The first construction work has already started. This includes demolition and replacement of a bridge in Hanau. This new railway overpass was put into operation in May 2023 and is a significant step towards the future S-Bahn connections. The future in view

The complete implementation of the northern Mainian S-Bahn is planned for the early 2030s. The project is part of the infrastructure development program Frankfurt Rheinmain and is also intended to significantly improve the regional and national traffic connections by combining with other infrastructure projects. The Eisenbahn-tundeamt has already approved a planning approval section for the city of Frankfurt am Main.
