Hanau honors creative minds: Sustainability Prize 2025 awarded!
The city of Hanau ceremoniously awarded the ninth sustainability award in the amphitheater on July 5, 2025. The price, which emerged from the environmental price, aims to promote the 17 goals for sustainable development and support initiatives that are committed to a sustainable and livable cityscape. Mayor Dr. Maximilian Bieri (SPD) heated up the mood and thanked the numerous participants and sponsors for their commitment.
A special highlight of the evening was the moderating manuscript by Stefan Rautenberg. With literary quotations and magic tricks, he ensured an entertaining atmosphere. A total of 32 applicants for the coveted prizes were applied, with 14 of them being considered with a total prize money of 9,000 euros. Those who did not leave empty received a certificate for a tree planting, which underlines how important the sustainable handling of natural resources is.

The distribution of prices into different categories was particularly exciting. In the area of the garden price, Christine Kaiser convinced with her innovative three-zone after-school garden and secured first place. Indigo Janka ended up in second place with his "Edelgart - Vegetable Garden", followed by Sarah Gorzelitz and Sabine Schürmann, who were awarded for their nature gardens that were designed.
Also in the categories of media and creative prize, the focus was on remarkable projects. Here the “Alte Fasanerie” wildlife park, in collaboration with Hessenforst, won for the development of a barrier-free ground and rock teaching path. In the further ranks, the Ludwig Geißler School followed with a project for democracy education and the Eugen-Kaiser School with "Bionik in the Design".
The audience and jury award
The public interest was also great. The group of trainees from Evonik Industries AG won the audience award with its chemical plants. The Erich Kästner School from Maintal and the Hanau Clinic for their sustainable health care followed in the placement.
The jury award was characterized by particularly promising projects in the planning phase. Here there were remarkable ideas such as the radio cameras of the Bird and Nature Conservation Association Großauheim, which will enable insights into the nursery of tower falcons, owls and bats. In addition, the nature -related garden projects of the gymnastics in 1860 and the creative project of printable design.
These awards are not only beautiful recognitions of the organizations involved, but also make an important contribution to the implementation of the United Nations Agenda 2030, which launched 17 sustainability goals. These goals that are used at national, regional and local level include important topics such as education for sustainable development, equality and the protection of natural resources.
