At the picturesque Sickenhöfer Lake, the athletes competed in exciting competitions that are part of the Hessian racing series for students and youth. Three young athletes took part: Liko Martin, Mattis Lik and Fynn-Luca Neuser, and they were able to achieve impressive results.

Liko Martin, who was born in 2014, competed in the student B age group. He completed 200 meters of open water, followed by 5 kilometers of cycling and a 1 kilometer run. In the end, Liko Martin crossed the finish line after 23:33.24 minutes and thus secured an excellent second place.

Strong performance from students A

In the age group of students A, which also includes Mattis Lik and Fynn-Luca Neuser (born in 2013), things were just as sporty. Here the athletes had to swim 400 meters, cycle 10 kilometers and run 2.5 kilometers. Mattis Lik was the fastest Gelnhausen athlete in this class with a total time of 44:40.56 minutes and took 4th place. Fynn-Luca Neuser followed him with also a great 46:12.17 minutes and thus secured 6th place. All three were extremely satisfied after the competition and are already looking forward to further training sessions to improve their performance.

The next opportunity for the young triathletes to demonstrate their skills will be on July 6, 2026 as part of the HTV Cup in Bottendorf. These events are not only a great platform for talented athletes, but also an important opportunity to further promote the sport of triathlon in the region and spread enthusiasm for this exciting sport.

Triathlon on the rise

The triathlon, which originated in San Diego, California in 1974, is now also very popular in Germany. Since the founding of the German Triathlon Union in 1985 and the introduction of the discipline into the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, the number of competitions has increased significantly. Around 600 triathlon events with over 1,500 competitions take place in Germany every year. In 2016, the organizers counted over 270,000 participants, an impressive increase compared to 90,000 in 2003. There are also some very special events, such as the ITU World Triathlon Series in Hamburg, which attracts a lot of attention with around 10,000 participants and over 250,000 spectators.

For everyone who is interested in this varied sport, the Hessian Triathlon Association offers a variety of events that suit every level of ability. From taster events to high-class competitions, there is something for everyone. Information about future dates and events, such as the Kinzigtal Triathlon and the Frankfurt City Triathlon, can be found on the association's websites and other triathlon platforms.

So if you want to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of triathlon, you definitely shouldn't miss the next competitions. With committed athletes like Liko, Mattis and Fynn-Luca, sport definitely has a promising future in Hesse.
