Shock in the Barbarossabad: Nine girls victims of sexual assault!
In the Barbarossa outdoor pool in Gelnhausen, a disturbing incident became known in which several young girls and women were sexually harassed. At the moment, nine affected girls between the ages of 11 and 17 have already registered with the police. The alleged perpetrators, a group of young men between the ages of 18 and 28, were identified by the local police officers and their identities were clarified. The exception is another man who quickly left the bathroom before the police could intervene. Mayor Christian Litzinger (CDU) described this incident as a previously unable to be in Barbarossabad this year, even if there were already four house bans without sexual background in the previous year, for example because of theft or mild assault.
The type of harassment seems to be particularly frightening about the witnesses. The women concerned explained that they were touched by several men all over the body in the pelvic area of the strudel. Nils Tischer, the head of the Barbarossabad, emphasized the urgency to report attacks immediately, especially when there is a high number of visitors. The police are now investigating to determine the exact course of the acts and hopes for additional information from other witnesses. Contacting the Gelnhausen police is possible on 06051 - 8270.
background for sexual harassment
The incidents in the Barbarossabad are not isolated. According to a study by the Institute for Applied sex science and the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences, nine out of ten women have already had experience with verbal harassment. The same number reports of unwanted physical touch. Experts emphasize that sexual harassment, whether verbally or physically, is a serious impairment of the right to sexual self -determination. Obscones or degrading comments can lead to legal steps, especially if they meet the facts of the insult.
The legal framework for protection against sexual harassment includes fines or imprisonment for up to five years in serious cases. It is increasingly pointed out that both the awareness of this problem and the reactions in society have to be improved. The SPD parliamentary group plans to expand the legal possibilities against sexual harassment to ensure that verbal harassment can also result in legal consequences to better protect the victims.
In the current situation, it is important that the affected girls and women are encouraged to report and share their experiences in order to prevent such incidents in the future. An open discussion about sexual harassment remains essential so that every form of attack is immediately punished and the public is sensitized to the topic.
