A very special place has opened in Bad Orb since April 12, 2025: the so-called “Boulder Church”. What exactly is that? A converted church that now shines as a climbing gym. With a unique ambience and a concept that breathes the passion for bouldering, it attracts not only climbing professionals but also beginners. Managing directors Marc Ihl and Marco Köhler, both enthusiastic climbers, are the driving forces behind this innovative project, which has already captivated over 4,500 visitors.
The bouldering hall offers an impressive climbing area of almost 600 square meters on two levels. Very different materials are used here: 48 tons of climbing walls, 28 tons of substructure wood and many other components that together guarantee a first-class climbing experience. This also includes 22 fall mats and 6 tons of climbing holds, which offer adventurers plenty of space for creative movement promotion.
Climbing fun for everyone
What makes bouldering so special? It is not only a sport that promotes physical fitness and mental strength, but also a social sport that brings people together. The Boulder Church in Bad Orb offers optimal conditions to immerse yourself in this exciting sport. With soft fall protection mats, routes for every level and a relaxed atmosphere, it's the perfect place to explore your limits.
Climbing shoes can be rented directly on site, so no expensive equipment is necessary. Visitors should only bring comfortable clothing. The hall allows both beginners and advanced riders to demonstrate their skills and experience new adventures. Bouldering is an exciting way to make new friends and share adventures while increasing your physical fitness.
A look at the successes
Since opening, Boulder Church has already employed 11 people who are passionate about helping to provide climbers with a great experience. **Bouldering is not only fun, it's also contagious**. From the first pieces of furniture to the over 280,000 screws needed to build it, the team shows a keen eye for detail so that every climber can experience their perfect adventure.
