Construction site on Gluckensteinweg: Finally free travel again from Thursday!

Citizens can breathe a sigh of relief on Gluckensteinweg in Bad Homburg: The construction site, which has caused massive restrictions since the water pipe burst on July 19, 2025, will be completed on Thursday evening, October 1, 2025. The city administration informs that the road and sidewalks will be reopened in time for the upcoming holiday. This comes after intensive construction work, which entailed a comprehensive renovation of the traffic routes.

The burst water pipe caused a pressure of six bar and led to a leak of around 400 m³, which corresponds to around 3,500 bathtubs. The affected residents, including three residential buildings with around 15 to 20 residential units, had to prepare for significant damage. However, the repair work was able to move forward quickly and the water supply was restored on July 20th, as bad-homburg.de reported.

Extensive construction work

As part of the renovation work, the roadway was raised by around 50 cm. In order to increase the safety and comfort of pedestrians, the sidewalk crossings on Fröbelstrasse and Weberstrasse were made barrier-free. The municipal utility company replaced gas and water pipes over a length of around 80 meters, including new connections to Fröbelstrasse and an existing fire hydrant.

The work currently underway includes asphalting and completing the sidewalks. Mark Reiffen from the city's road construction department announced that buses would be able to drive along the route again from Thursday at 5 p.m. This means that the Schwalbacher Straße and Hamelstraße bus stops, which could not be reached after the water pipe burst, will also be put back into operation.

Outlook for future renovations

But the current measures are just the beginning. Further renovation work is planned for the coming year, which will affect the Gluckensteinweg over a length of 650 meters. These will be carried out in six to eight construction phases in order to give residents and shops in the area access again as quickly as possible.

The knowledge about the subsoil condition from the current construction work is used to implement future projects safely and efficiently. The next large-scale renovation is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and will include a comprehensive replacement of gas, water and sewer pipes as well as the road surface, reports fnp.de.
