Kassel once again named the happiest city in Germany”!

What makes Kassel so special? You could ask yourself this question when you look at the latest data from the SKL Happiness Atlas. Kassel has once again claimed the top position as the “happiest city in Germany”, for the second time in a row. Loud FFH the city achieved an impressive 7.44 points out of 10 possible. This award refers to a survey by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy, which was carried out as part of the SKL Glücksatlas and in which over 25,500 people from 40 major cities were surveyed.

The high level of life satisfaction in Kassel is remarkable, as more than 55% of city residents are satisfied with their lives. This is a significant difference from the average of the 40 large cities, where only 41.8% of satisfied residents are recorded. One aspect that speaks for this positive assessment is the well-developed infrastructure and the good educational policy in Kassel, which promote a balanced quality of life.

A look at the competition

But what about other cities? Frankfurt am Main, often perceived as an economic center, is struggling with a place in the bottom third of the ranking (34th place). There is a big gap between very satisfied and dissatisfied residents, which depresses the attitude to life. Wiesbaden is also on the losing road with its penultimate place of 39th. Even if large cities like Stuttgart and Munich offer a good quality of life, they cannot keep up when it comes to satisfaction.

Kassel's secret

Another crucial factor for Kassel's place at the top is the even distribution of life satisfaction among its residents. While Kassel and the second-placed city of Krefeld (7.15 points) show a good balance, cities like Frankfurt and Rostock have big differences between their citizens. This is influenced not only by property prices and crime rates, but also by social isolation and overburdened infrastructure in larger cities.

The results show that smaller and family-oriented cities like Kassel are in vogue. This finding is also reflected in the other top rankings, which include Erfurt, Aachen, Kiel and Münster. The Happiness Atlas is based on 50 indicators and analyzes aspects such as living situation, demographics, prosperity and environmental quality. The increasing satisfaction in Kassel and other smaller cities is not only a positive trend - it could also be an indication of the future development of urban quality of life.

What's left to say? Kassel is not only happy, but also an example of how good living conditions and committed city politics can make the difference. Muffled sounds from the neighborhood are drowned out by the positive practices of life in the “Happiness Capital”.
