Water fun on Luisenplatz: The new PlayFountain is here!

The time has come in Wiesbaden: the mobile water playground PlayFountain has reopened its doors and is bringing a breath of fresh air and refreshment to the city center. From July 3rd to August 17th, Luisenplatz is all about games, fun and exercise. Mayor Christiane Hinninger praises the project and emphasizes that the PlayFountain is a castle in the air for all age groups. It not only improves the quality of living, but also actively contributes to climate adaptation in the city. With over 15,000 visitors last year, including many families and groups, the return was anything but a plunge into the deep end.

This year's edition comes with new amenities. The offer not only includes the popular water features with 1,024 electronically controlled nozzles that spray fountains up to four meters high, but also numerous improvements. Guests can look forward to large parasols, comfortable deck chairs and a toilet trolley. Drinks are also available – at cost price. These measures are a direct response to the feedback from visitors from the previous year and show that the city has a good hand when it comes to constantly optimizing its offerings.

A highlight of the summer time

On Thursday, July 31st, the PlayFountain will be the venue for a special event: a free summer concert with Sabine Gramenz and Malte Kühn promises an unforgettable experience with water and light effects. The performance is part of the “Wiesbaden reads” event series and begins at 7:30 p.m. Such events not only contribute to the revitalization of the city center, but also set an example for the city's community spirit.

The PlayFountain will be open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. All activities are free, allowing everyone to enjoy a day full of joy and refreshment without high entry fees.

The PlayFountain is not just a water playground - it also represents a larger trend in cities: water features are seen as important elements in the city climate. These offer welcome cooling on hot days and help to make urban spaces more lively. According to playground-landscape.com, the planning of such places is crucial for heat adaptation in cities. This shows how important it is to integrate water into public spaces - not only for entertainment, but also to promote community life and social interactions.

The sustainable design of the water feature is also safe: a modern water treatment system ensures that the water is constantly cleaned and kept in drinking water quality. With an electricity consumption of just 10 kilowatts per hour, the PlayFountain can be considered environmentally friendly and at the same time brings a bit of joy to the city. Funded by the federal program “Sustainable Inner Cities and Centers”, this project is a prime example of successful urban development.

So make your way to Luisenplatz and enjoy the lively offerings at PlayFountain - it's worth it! Summer is here and with it the opportunity to spend carefree hours.
