Marathon magic in Wiesbaden: midnight run and traffic chaos!
The Ikano Bank City Marathon in Wiesbaden will once again attract numerous sports enthusiasts to the city on June 27th and 28th, 2025. A very special highlight of the event is the midnight finish on Schlossplatz, which gives this event a unique charm. The main races start on Saturday evening, with the marathon and half marathon taking place at 7:15 p.m. in Wilhelmstrasse, followed by a 3KM, 5KM and 5KM company run at 7:35 p.m. and the 10KM run at 7:45 p.m. The school class run will take place on Friday, June 27th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and offers young athletes the opportunity to try out.
Unfortunately, the preparations for the marathon also bring with them some traffic delays. From 2 p.m. on Saturday, Wilhelmstrasse between Burgstrasse and Kureck will be closed to vehicle traffic. In addition, numerous streets in the city center are not fully passable from 2:00 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. Residents and road users are asked to be patient and take alternative routes to avoid the possible traffic jam. According to wiesbaden-leben.de, the road closures will end after the last runner, but no later than midnight.
Traffic adjustments for marathon visitors
For anyone who wants to travel to the event by car, it is important to consider the parking options in advance. From 11 a.m. there will be no parking spaces available along the running route. The following car parks are recommended: RMCC car park, Park & Ride Moltkering, Theater car park, Liliencarré car park, Schwalbacher Straße Mauritius car park and other car parks on Schwalbacher Straße and Bowling Green. The bus stops that will not be served during the event include, among others, the stops at Nerotal, Sanitas, and the numerous stops in the city center.
With the aim of doing justice to the environment, the organizers of the marathon not only have an eye on ensuring that everything runs smoothly, but also on sustainable solutions as part of the event. In Germany, there is increasing work being done to improve the sustainability of sporting events. Aspects such as the arrival of participants and spectators, waste from catering and the consumption of resources are of central importance. Initiatives such as the “Green Champions 2.0” portal offer practices and guidance to make events more environmentally friendly, which is also something the organizers of the Ikano Bank Marathon have in mind, as re-athlete.de reports.
The organizing team strives to integrate sustainable mobility solutions and catering offerings that minimize the event's ecological footprint. Regional products, vegetarian dishes and reusable tableware could be the right steps in this direction to give participants a clear conscience as they make their rounds around the city. Involving guests and local businesses in particular can contribute to a positive development.
So, whether as a participant or spectator – the Ikano Bank City Marathon promises not only exciting competitions, but also a communal and environmentally conscious experience. Get ready, running and partying in Wiesbaden this weekend is sure to leave a lasting impression.
