New cycle path between Heusenstamm and Gravenbruch: construction will start soon!
The region around Heusenstamm will experience a comprehensive change from July 14, 2025. Hessen Mobil has announced that it will begin building a new cycle path on state road 3117 between Heusenstamm and Gravenbruch. This move is part of a larger transport infrastructure project that aims to not only increase the safety of cyclists, but also improve road conditions. Hessen.de reports that the construction work is expected to last until the end of April 2026 and is divided into several construction phases.
The first construction phase extends from the Heusenstamm exit to the intersection with L 3001 (Dietzenbacher Straße) and is scheduled to last until the beginning of September. During this time the section will be declared one-way. However, the route from Heusenstamm to Gravenbruch remains passable for road users, while the diversion in the opposite direction takes place via Dietzenbacher Straße and Hohebergstraße.
Construction work and traffic restrictions
The entire renovation of the L3117 is divided into seven construction phases, which will last over the summer holidays and beyond. op-online points out that the central traffic artery for the region crosses Heusenstamm and is expected to cause traffic jams. Businesses are concerned about the impact of construction work on their customer traffic. Arno Krämer from Hessen Mobil emphasized the need for renovation due to ruts and breaks. The construction work is not only important for traffic safety, but also a prerequisite for receiving financial aid from the federal government's economic stimulus package.
Particular attention is being paid to the planned work during the summer holidays, as the most sensitive parts of the route are being worked on in order to disrupt commuter and school traffic as little as possible. The first and second construction phases at the Kempinski intersection will be carried out over the first two holiday weekends. Further significant construction activities are scheduled for the following weeks, including a full closure of the important intersection on the first weekend in August.
Cycle paths for the future
In addition to the renovation of the roads, the construction of cycle paths on the federal and state roads in Hesse is also being pushed forward. Wirtschaft Hessen has provided an overview of all cycle path projects since 2014, which are intended not only to increase the safety of cyclists, but also to promote sustainable mobility. The map shows current and planned cycle paths and is updated regularly.
If all goes according to plan, the region will benefit from an improved transport network, which will not only increase road safety but can also have a positive impact on the local economy. However, it is important for everyone affected to be well informed about the upcoming changes and to plan alternative routes if necessary. Further details on the ongoing construction work and diversions will be provided by Hessen Mobil in future reports.
