Swimming festival in Hochtaunus: Talents shine at district championships!

The district swimming championships in the Hochtaunus and Main-Taunus districts captivated many water fans last weekend in the Rhein-Main-Therme in Hofheim. The swimming event, organized by the Hofheim Swimming Club, provided an excellent platform for 306 swimmers from eight different clubs to demonstrate their skills. The Oberursel Swimming Club (SCO) was among the participants with 43 participants and impressed not only with the number of athletes, but also with the variety of age groups, which ranged from those born in 2018 to young adults.

The atmosphere was one of team spirit and support, encouraging the swimmers to do their best. What was particularly noticeable was the premiere of some young swimmers, such as Robin Niewöhner, Nele Mangold and Felix Schaaf, who competed in the district championships for the first time. Nele Mangold was able to celebrate twice and won the title of district champion.

With a competition program that offered distances from 50 to 1500 meters in the four swimming positions of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, the participants had the chance to achieve personal bests and meet their mandatory times for upcoming challenges. The SCO coaches emphasized the positive and motivating atmosphere within the team, which enabled the young talents to support each other.

News from the Oberursel swimming club

But that wasn't the only news to report from the Oberursel swimming club. At the association's annual general meeting, which was attended by around 50 members, a situation marked by the death of former chairwoman Frauke Gunkel and the departure of long-standing board members was discussed. Peter Haas represented the late chairwoman and chaired the meeting. The club is currently in the process of realignment and design with the aim of distributing responsibility across several shoulders and modernizing the structures.

External moderation by the Hesse State Sports Association supports this process, while the importance of swimming courses for non-members remains in focus. In 2022, around 800 children and young people took part in these courses, which further underlines the club's certified role as a “Hesse swimming training center”.

On a sporting level, the SCO competition groups shine with outstanding successes, including Leon Bucklitsch, who won bronze in the 50m freestyle at the German Age Championships, and Jona Buhrke, who won silver in the 100m butterfly at the German Masters in the 20 age group. In total, the swimmers collected an impressive 16 medals at the Hessian Championships. The SCO Schneidern triathletes also achieved impressive success and recently competed at the World Championships in Hawaii, where Leon Kriszeleit came 65th overall and was voted athlete of the year in Hochtaunus.

With the election of a new board consisting of Peter Haas and other committed members, the upcoming period will bring many changes for the swimming club. In the coming weeks, the team will push ahead with the realignment and further strengthen the swimming culture in the region, which will not only benefit the fun of exercise, but also the promotion of young sports. It will be interesting to see how the Oberursel Swimming Club will develop under the new management.
