In Michelstadt, a construction site on Hochstrasse is currently causing a stir. What was originally intended to be a two-day pothole removal effort has turned into a larger rehabilitation project. As the city administration announced in a current announcement, the construction site is expected to be completed by mid-September 2025. In addition to a lack of personnel, the reason for the delays is also unexpected damage to sewer connections and gullies that were discovered during the work. The Michelstadt public utilities took the opportunity to renovate a main water pipe at the same time.
The elevated road will therefore remain completely closed until mid-September on a section of 150 meters between Heinrich-Keidel-Straße and Am Berg. However, residents have the option of driving to the construction site. A diversion has been put in place via surrounding roads to direct traffic in the area and avoid possible traffic jams. In the past there have been repeated complaints about the condition of the road, which makes the current work even more important. Now it's time for citizens to be patient until the road is finally open to traffic again.
The challenges of renovation
The original plan was to finish quickly, but the reality is different. “We did not expect these additional challenges,” explained a spokesman for the municipal utility. In particular, the repairs to the sewer connections required considerable additional work that had not been planned for. By taking the existing damage into account in the renovation plan, an attempt is now being made to progress the work quickly and efficiently in order to minimize inconvenience for residents.
Nevertheless, optimism remains. As soon as the construction site is completed, the elevated road will not only shine in new splendor, but will also be safer for all road users. “We are doing good business for the future of the street,” emphasized the city spokesman.
The ongoing work on the elevated highway is not only a sign of the necessary maintenance measures, but also of the city's commitment to keeping its infrastructure in optimal condition.
