Great enthusiasm for the Naturgarten campaign in the Odenwaldkreis!
The "Aktion Naturgarten" in the Odenwaldkreis has once again shown how much interest and enthusiasm causes nature -related gardening. On the last weekend in Juni, six private gardens opened their doors in Erbach, Michelstadt and Mossautal. Over 100 visitors had come to find out about the advantages of wild plants and the importance of structural diversity in domestic gardens. District Administrator Frank Matiaske and climate protection manager Lea Bruder expressed her thanks to all the garden owners who provided their gardens for the campaign. The participants included Angelika Gaubatz, Jürgen Roth, and Markus Kessler.
In the renovated and natural gardens, there was a lively exchange between the garden owners and the interested guests. These discussions, which dealt with the promotion of biodiversity and climate protection, were clearly the focus of the event. Numerous positive feedback prove the great interest in the concepts shown. Matiaske also emphasized the huge importance of natural gardens for climate protection and the survival of many species, a topic that is more important in the world, especially in today's time, on the occasion of the international diversity of Biodiversity on May 22nd.
Promotion of biodiversity by nature -related gardening
With around 40% of all types in Baden-Württemberg, which are at risk, the topic of biodiversity is becoming increasingly urgent. The main causes are the loss of habitats due to surface consumption and the use of pesticides. One of the solutions that also takes up measures recommended by the Rhein-Neckar-Odenwald Gardeners can do a lot through targeted measures.
-
Use
- peat -free earth to protect the bogs.
- Previous plants through seed -resistant seeds.
- do without chemical-synthetic pesticides and fertilizer. use domestic plants that serve as food for animals.
- lawn less often mow to create habitat for insects.
- Wild corners in the garden that offer shelter.
- Leave dead wood for insects.
- A natural garden pond can be a valuable habitat.
- flat water bowls in summer set up for thirsty insects.
In addition, it is important that garden owners choose resilient and plants adapted to the conditions. Natural gardens not only offer habitat for a variety of animals, but also the opportunity to experience nature up close and to develop mindfulness for seasonal changes. However, challenges through climate change, such as persistent heat and drought, could create additional hurdles in gardening.
look into the future: Action for 2026 planned
The "Aktion Naturgarten" took place for the fifth time. The next one will be planned in 2026 in Reichelsheim, Franconian-Crumbach and Brensbach. Interested garden owners are invited to report to climate protection management in autumn 2025 in order to make their garden green accessible to the general public and to contribute to biodiversity.
The commitment to gardening is strong and for many remains an important step towards the most diverse and intact environment. It becomes clear: Every square meter counts when it comes to protecting and promoting our nature. No matter whether through a natural garden in your own home or through the conscious plants of domestic species - the contribution of each individual is valuable!
